About Us

Cub Scout Pack 340 consists of scouts and families from the Spring Grove, IL and Richmond, IL area. The scouts primarily attend Spring Grove Elementary School and Richmond Elementary School. We are chartered by the Spring Grove Fire Department. Our Pack size range from 40 to 50 scouts and den size from 8 to 10 scouts. Our philosophy is to insure the scouts are having fun while learning new skills and creating new friendships. The Pack meets once month (September to May) typically on the first Friday of the month at the Spring Grove State Bank of the Lakes Community Center (basement). The Dens typically meet twice a month. The dates, time and location are determined by the den leader and parents of the den. The Pack is also active during the summer holding at least two pack events a month. Listed below are some of the events we hold on a yearly basis. Over Night Events - Weekend Family Pack Camp Out in June - October Camp Fire Pack Meeting / Over Night - Winter indoor over night event (night at a Chicago museum, WWII Submarine, etc.) Events - Family Cake Bake - Pinewood Derby - Blue and Gold Banquet - Spring Grove Memorial Day Ceremony - 4th of July Parade Float - Rain Gutter Regatta - Water Rockets - Sporting Events (Wolves, Ice Hogs, semi-pro Baseball, etc.) - Special Events (Monster Truck Jam, Harlem Globe Trotters, etc.) Service Projects We are service oriented Pack. We do several service projects a year. Our big project is maintaining and monitoring blue bird houses in the Chain O Lakes State Park. Every spring, we clean out and replace if necessary over 50 bird houses in the State Park. The Pack then monitors the bird houses for the next six to eight weeks reporting back what kind of birds are nesting in the houses and how many chicks hatched. This is an on-going environmental study to help increase the population of blue birds in the area. The Pack recently received the Messengers of Peace award for this service activity. We also participate in the annual Scouting for Food drive and plan service projects through out the year. Our primary fundraiser is Blackhawk Area Council Popcorn sales in the fall. The Pack maintains a healthy budget based on popcorn sales and a nominal annual fee included in the Pack registration fees.
